Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion

  • males or females \>= 70 years of age
  • RRF 5-7 ml/min/1.73 m2
  • left ventricular ejection fraction \>40%
  • signed informed written consent

Exclusion

  • diabetes
  • severe cerebral disease
  • proteinuria \>3 g/24 h
  • severe hepatic failure
  • active malignancy
  • COPD requiring supplementary oxygen
  • AIDS, or HIV-positive
