Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion

  • consecutive patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (severe deterioration of chronic liver disease) unresponsive to standard medical treatment for \>=48 hours

Exclusion

  • arterial hypotension
  • extrahepatic malignancy
