- DISEASE CHARACTERISTICS:
- Diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (all stages)
- PATIENT CHARACTERISTICS:
- Admitted to City of Hope National Medical Center
- Resides within a 30-mile radius of the medical center
- No prior cancer
- PRIOR CONCURRENT THERAPY:
- No prior therapy
