Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion

  • adult patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery

Exclusion

  • arrhythmias
  • documented peripheral artery disease
  • severe pulmonary disease
  • heart failure
  • unstable angina
  • preoperative use of inotropics or mechanical assist device
  • use of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors
  • expected intubation difficulty or gastric reflux disease
