- ability to undergo general anesthesia
- Age \> 18 yrs
- ability to give informed consent
- requires total proctocolectomy,total abdominal colectomy, completion proctectomy, or sigmoidectomy
- absence of exclusion criteria
Exclusion
- age \< 18
- pregnancy
- emergency operation
- contraindication for laparoscopic surgery
