Researchers are conducting a prospective observational cohort study to compare the occurrence of gastric cancer and the progression of precancerous stomach lesions among groups with different Helicobacter pylori (Hp) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) subtypes. The study focuses on people who initially have a negative gastric endoscopy and distinguishes between those carrying high-risk Hp SNP subtypes and those with non-high-risk subtypes. The main goal is to assess differences in gastric cancer incidence during follow-up, as well as to observe how precancerous lesions develop over time in these groups. The study involves following asymptomatic individuals who carry either high-risk or non-high-risk Hp SNP subtypes. Participants will be observed over a 3-year period without any active intervention, with researchers monitoring the incidence of gastric cancer and changes in gastric precancerous lesions such as atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia. The study also aims to explore how factors like age, gender, diet, smoking, alcohol use, and family history may influence the risk associated with these Hp subtypes. During the study, participants will undergo baseline and follow-up examinations, including gastric endoscopy, to track the development of gastric cancer and precancerous changes. Researchers will collect data on various risk factors and monitor participants for 3 years from enrollment to measure differences in cancer incidence across the groups. The study excludes those with prior gastric cancer or certain health conditions that could limit participation or survival, ensuring a focused evaluation of risks in this population.
