Comparing Active Oxygen Gel and Hyaluronic Acid Gel for Healing Wounds After Free Gingival Graft Surgery

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the effectiveness of different palatal dressing materials for healing wounds after free gingival graft surgery. This randomized controlled trial will include 30 healthy patients with mucogingival defects who need free gingival grafts. The study aims to find out which dressing provides better postoperative comfort and improves healing at the donor site. Participants will be randomly divided into three groups of 10. One group will receive a gelatin sponge with flowable composite as a control dressing. The second group will have hyaluronic acid gel applied and then covered with a gelatin sponge and flowable composite. The third group will receive active oxygen gel with the same covering materials. The grafts will be harvested using a standard surgical technique, and dressings will be applied to the donor site accordingly. Patients will be given pain medication and mouth rinse as standard postoperative care. Participants will be monitored through follow-up visits at 1, 2, and 4 weeks after surgery. Pain levels, analgesic use, wound healing progress using the Landry healing index, complete wound epithelialization via hydrogen peroxide test, wound size changes, and any complications will be assessed. These evaluations will help determine the healing quality and comfort associated with each dressing type over the four-week period.
