The purpose of this study is to find out whether it is practical (feasible) to use acupuncture to treat period loss (amenorrhea) caused by chemotherapy treatment in people with cancer. The researchers will look at how many participants enroll and complete the study. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- English-speaking females aged 15 to 40 years
- History of stage I, II, or III cancer OR stable stage IV or unstaged hematologic malignancy
- Premenopausal with regular menstruation at diagnosis by patient report
- Completed cytotoxic chemotherapy within the past year
- Reported cessation of menses during or after chemotherapy with no recovery at enrollment
- For females 15 to 17 years old, must have reached menarche before or during therapy
- Without menses for at least 3 months following chemotherapy completion
- Willing to follow all study procedures, including randomization to acupuncture or waiting list control
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnant or lactating within 3 months before enrollment
- History of hysterectomy or bilateral oophorectomy
- Ongoing or planned radiation or surgery within 4 months from randomization
- Use of acupuncture for menses recovery within 3 months before enrollment
- Receiving or planning to receive ovarian suppression medicine or hormonal contraception within 3 months before enrollment or during the study
