Acupuncture therapy will be provided to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The mild to moderate hypertensive patients will be either on or off hypertensive medications. The course last for 8 weeks and the frequency is once a week.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age between 45 and 75 years
- Clinically diagnosed with mild to moderate hypertension
- On or off hypertension medication
- Office systolic blood pressure greater than 140 mmHg and less than 160 mmHg, or ambulatory blood pressure monitoring average systolic blood pressure greater than 130 mmHg and less than 145 mmHg
- No significant ECG changes reflecting ischemia at rest
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnant or nursing
- History of coronary disease or conduction abnormalities on ECG such as left bundle branch block
- Cardiac arrhythmias associated with low blood pressure (less than 90 mmHg)
- Peripheral vascular disease, orthopedic disease, diabetic neuropathy, or severe hypertension (blood pressure over 170/110 mmHg)
- Physical or psychological illness that may interfere with participation
- Known sensitivity to topical preparations, medical dressings, or skin tapes
- Unable or unwilling to provide written informed consent
