Study Comparing Lee Silverman Method With Lung Volume Recruitment Technique for Voice Professionals Aiming to Improve Voice and Respiratory Strength

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying voice professionals to compare the effects of the adapted Lee Silverman Method and the addition of a lung volume recruitment technique LVRT on voice quality and respiratory muscle strength. This trial evaluates changes in vocal range and the configuration of the vocal tract to improve phonation efficiency. The study is randomized with two treatment groups and aims to understand how these methods impact acoustic, perceptive, and visual aspects of voice. Participants will follow two different protocols in separate arms. One group will perform the adapted Lee Silverman Method exercises, which include a 14-day routine of three sets of five repetitions daily. The other group will perform the same exercises but with the addition of the LVRT using a bag-mask ventilation system connected to a pressure gauge to maintain inspiratory pressure between 30 and 40 cmH2O during vocal emissions. This also involves three sets of five repetitions with controlled vocal sounds and hydration between sets. During the study, participants will be assessed over 30 days for vocal range profile, functional laryngeal assessment, and respiratory muscle strength. These evaluations include acoustic and structural voice analyses to monitor changes. The trial involves monitoring vocal performance and respiratory function to understand the impact of both interventions on voice professionals, with the study expected to last through July 2026.
