What this Trial Is About
Malnutrition is a significant issue in cancer care, affecting about 40% of patients and negatively impacting treatment success, quality of life, and recovery chances. This research focuses on evaluating how well current practices follow national recommendations for diagnosing and managing malnutrition, especially through enteral nutrition, which uses the digestive tract and is preferred over artificial methods due to lower risks. The study builds on earlier findings showing low compliance and aims to improve adherence via targeted interventions. The study is organized in three phases. The first phase reviewed past patient records to confirm underuse of enteral nutrition and identify barriers. The second phase introduced educational workshops for patients and training sessions for healthcare providers to improve understanding and acceptance of enteral nutrition. The third phase prospectively analyzes patient care after these improvements to assess whether adherence to the recommendations has increased. Participants are adults hospitalized in medical oncology units who require enteral nutrition based on established criteria. The study involves reviewing medical records and tracking nutritional care decisions over six months. Researchers will assess compliance with recommendations, reasons for non-adherence, timing and duration of enteral nutrition, and related patient outcomes. Patient education and healthcare provider training are key components monitored for their impact on care quality and nutritional support use.
