What this Trial Is About

This research aims to evaluate how a music and video-based group exercise therapy affects motivation, physical function, cognition, and well-being in older adults living with moderate dementia. The study focuses on participants aged 65 and older who experience moderate dementia and reside in nursing homes. The trial is designed to explore whether this therapy can improve various aspects of health and daily functioning in this population. Participants in the intervention group will join small group exercise sessions twice weekly for four months. During these sessions, they will watch a video of an older woman performing exercises on a large screen and will be encouraged to copy the movements. Each session lasts up to 45 minutes, and participants can select the music they prefer at the start of each session. The control group will continue their usual physical therapy without receiving the additional music and video-based therapy. Throughout the study, researchers will measure changes in motivation, muscle strength, compliance, adherence, and attrition rates at various points from baseline through four months. They will also assess balance, gait, activity levels, sleep, cognition, quality of life, and behavioral symptoms using established tests and questionnaires. Participants will be monitored during the intervention period, and evaluations will occur at baseline, mid-intervention, and study end to capture the therapy's impact.
