Evaluating Diode Laser Added to Mechanical Cleaning in Non-Surgical Gum Disease Treatment

Researchers are evaluating the effect of adding diode laser therapy to mechanical, non-surgical root surface cleaning in patients with periodontal disease. The study aims to compare the clinical results of using a 940-nm diode laser along with root surface debridement against root surface debridement alone. This investigation uses a split-mouth design where different parts of the mouth receive different treatments for comparison. In this study, two opposite quadrants of each patients mouth will receive mechanical scaling and root planing combined with diode laser therapy, while the other two quadrants will undergo mechanical scaling and root planing only. The laser treatment uses a 940-nm diode laser applied adjunctively to the mechanical cleaning. Quadrants are randomly assigned to the treatment groups to ensure unbiased comparison. Participants will be monitored before treatment and then at 12 weeks and 6 months after treatment. Researchers will measure probing pocket depth as the primary outcome and clinical attachment level and bleeding on probing as secondary outcomes. This will help assess and compare the healing and effectiveness of the two treatment approaches over time under regular clinical evaluations.
