What this Trial Is About
Researchers are investigating the genes responsible for causing Alzheimer's Disease (AD), focusing on families with multiple members diagnosed with AD or dementia. This observational study aims to collect genetic material to better understand the genetic risk factors for late-onset AD. The study is supported by Indiana University and involves families with at least two living blood-related members affected by AD or dementia. Participants provide biological samples such as fresh blood, immortalized lymphoblastic cell lines, or frozen cerebral cortex tissue (fixed samples are not accepted). Families qualifying for the study have at least two living members diagnosed with or showing symptoms of AD or dementia. Study sites are located across the United States, and arrangements can be made for families not near a participating site. During the study, biological specimens collected from families will be distributed to qualified researchers for further study, with investigators contacted annually for progress updates. No genetic counseling is provided, and individual test results are not available to participants due to privacy protections. The study is open to adults aged 18 and older and includes long-term participation through data sharing and research efforts.
