Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Ages 18 to 55
- Primary diagnosis of major depressive disorder and currently depressed
- Able to give written informed consent prior to participation
- Unmedicated or stable on an antidepressant regimen for at least 4 weeks to ensure symptoms are stable
You will not qualify if you...
- Clinically significant or unstable cardiovascular, pulmonary, endocrine, neurological, gastrointestinal illness or unstable medical disorder
- Current severe alcohol or substance use disorder except nicotine or caffeine
- History of traumatic brain injury
- Unable to complete MRI scan due to claustrophobia or MRI exclusions such as shrapnel inside the body
- Currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- Unable to complete questionnaires written in English
- Current use (within 3 weeks) of medications likely to influence cerebral blood flow except antidepressants
- Diagnosis of psychotic or organic mental disorder, bipolar I or II disorder
- Eye problems or difficulties with corrected vision
