What this Trial Is About
High myopia cataract is a complex eye condition with a high risk of blindness, affecting millions worldwide, especially in Asia. This research aims to develop a multi-center artificial intelligence (AI) model to improve the accuracy of calculating intraocular lens power and predicting postoperative vision outcomes for patients with highly myopic cataracts. Current lens calculation formulas are less accurate for this group due to limited data from ultra high myopia cases, primarily based on European and American populations. The study involves applying newly-invented AI models as a device to assist in planning cataract surgery and predicting surgical outcomes for patients with high myopia cataracts, including those with different lens and fundus conditions. The research uses data from Asian populations with this condition to build and validate AI tools that can better calculate lens power and assess cataract severity over several years. Participants will undergo preoperative eye imaging, cataract severity assessments, and fundus OCT scans. If surgery is performed, patients will be followed for at least one month postoperatively. Researchers will collect comprehensive clinical data before and after surgery to evaluate the AI model's accuracy in lens calculation, cataract grading, and risk prediction of surgical complications. The study plans long-term follow-up to monitor surgical outcomes and the AI model's clinical application.
