Study on Microplastic Exposure and Its Link to Different Stages of Gastric Cancer Development

Researchers are investigating the link between the amount of microplastic exposure and the risk of developing gastric mucosal carcinogenesis, which includes conditions like chronic non-atrophic gastritis, precancerous lesions, and gastric cancer. The study aims to understand whether higher microplastic exposure increases this risk and to identify sources of high-risk microplastic exposure. Participants will complete a detailed questionnaire about their exposure to external microplastics to help answer these questions. Participants will be divided into three groups based on their medical diagnosis from endoscopic or histopathological results those with chronic non-atrophic gastritis, those with precancerous lesions such as chronic atrophic gastritis or gastric intestinal metaplasia, and those diagnosed with gastric cancer. The study will record demographic information, Helicobacter pylori infection status, and plastic exposure scores for each participant group. During the study, participants will provide information through the structured questionnaire and undergo testing to confirm Helicobacter pylori status. Researchers will analyze the correlation between microplastic exposure and the stages of gastric mucosal carcinogenesis over a 9-month period. They will also study the sources of microplastic exposure and the combined effects of microplastics and Helicobacter pylori. Participant involvement includes truthful completion of questionnaires and providing recent diagnostic results.
