The Bialystok Bariatric Surgery Study (BBSS) is a prospective observational cohort study of patients undergoing bariatric surgery at the First Clinical Department of General and Endocrine Surgery at the Medical University of Bialystok. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- BMI 63 40 kg/m2, or BMI 63 35 with at least one obesity-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, respiratory disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, lipid abnormalities, gastrointestinal disorders, or heart disease
- Inability to achieve sustained healthy weight loss through prior efforts
- Patient consent to participate in the research project
- Willingness to attend follow-up visits
You will not qualify if you...
- Substance abuse
- Uncontrolled psychiatric illness
- Expected lack of compliance
- Advanced-stage cancer
- BMI less than 30 for non-obese control group
