What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying pediatric patients with acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP) and chronic pancreatitis (CP) to identify genetic mutations that may raise the risk of developing pancreatic cancer. The goal is to better understand this population and find genetic markers that could predict early onset CP and its complications. This observational study is supported by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and lasts for up to 4 years. Participants provide blood, saliva, urine, or stool samples at the start of the study or during follow-up visits if initial samples were missed or insufficient. Every 12 months for 4 years, children complete quality-of-life assessments and questionnaires that take about 2 hours. After this period, participants are monitored yearly. Throughout the study, researchers collect health and quality-of-life data and analyze the biospecimens to identify risk factors and disease burden. Assessments include regular questionnaires and sample collections to track disease progression and outcomes. The total participation time includes 4 years of active data collection and continued yearly follow-up after study completion.
