Radiographic Evaluation of Bone Gain in Full Upper Jaw Reconstruction Using Skull Versus Hip Bone Blocks

Researchers are evaluating the horizontal bone gain in severely deficient complete maxillary ridges reconstructed using bone blocks harvested from two different donor sites: the iliac crest and the calvarial bones. This study addresses the challenges of using calvarial bones due to their limited cancellous bone volume and curved shape, which may not fit well with the maxillary arch, versus the iliac crest, which provides ample bone blocks but may have greater graft resorption. The goal is to compare these two bone graft sources for maxillary alveolar ridge augmentation. Participants will undergo autogenous bone augmentation procedures to reconstruct the maxillary alveolar bone. The bone blocks will be harvested either from the iliac crest or the calvarial bones, depending on the assigned group. The study focuses on the radiographic evaluation of horizontal bone gain after these reconstructive procedures. During the study, participants will be monitored over a 6-month consolidation period to measure horizontal bone gain using radiographic imaging. Researchers will assess the quantity of new bone formed and the success of the grafts in rebuilding the maxillary ridges. The study includes clinical and radiographic evaluations to track healing and bone augmentation outcomes.
