What this Trial Is About
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus T2DM is a chronic condition involving insulin resistance and sustained high blood sugar levels that affect not only metabolism but also brain function, autonomic nervous system, heart regulation, cognition, and mental health. People with T2DM face increased risks of cognitive decline, autonomic dysfunction, reduced physical capacity, and psychological distress. This study investigates how metabolic problems relate to brain and heart function in adults with T2DM, focusing on the connections between brain activity, heart rate variability, cognition, physical function, and mental well-being. About 50 adults aged 40 to 65 with confirmed T2DM will participate in this observational cross-sectional study. Participants will undergo comprehensive assessments during a single visit, including resting electroencephalography EEG to measure brain activity, heart rate variability HRV to assess autonomic heart regulation, functional tests like the 1-Minute Sit-to-Stand and 6-Minute Walk, cognitive evaluation using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, physical activity questionnaires, and psychological assessments with the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Clinical data such as blood sugar control, lipid levels, and inflammation markers will be collected from medical records. Participants will complete all assessments in approximately one 60-minute visit. Researchers will analyze data to explore relationships between metabolic factors, brain and heart function, cognitive and physical performance, and mental health. The main outcomes include EEG brain wave measurements and HRV parameters. The study aims to improve understanding of neurocardiac function in T2DM and help develop better strategies for early detection of brain-heart dysfunction and tailored rehabilitation.
