Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • For OUD patients: admitted to chemical treatment with opioid use as reason
  • For OUD patients: diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder according to DSM-IV-TR
  • Ability to provide informed consent
  • Minimum 6th grade reading level
  • Willing and able to provide contact information for follow-up
  • For control participants: age- and gender-matched to OUD patients
  • Control participants must provide informed consent
  • Control participants must have minimum 6th grade reading level
  • Control participants must provide contact information for follow-up
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Refusal or inability to consent
  • Pregnancy
  • History of serious neurological illness such as chronic seizure disorder, Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome, epilepsy, or any seizure history not related to substance withdrawal
  • Inability to see text and photos clearly on a computer display
  • Unwillingness to adjust hairstyle or remove wig if needed for EEG headset
  • For control participants only: any current or past problems using opioids, prescription or illicit drugs
  • For control participants only: regular nicotine use (e.g., smoking or e-cigarette) within past 12 months
