Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 18 years or older
- Postoperative secondary peritonitis requiring ICU admission with clinical evidence such as diffuse or localized abdominal pain or tenderness, peritoneal signs like guarding, rigidity, or rebound tenderness
- Imaging or intraoperative confirmation of purulent or exudative intra-abdominal fluid
- Evidence of systemic inflammation including fever, leukocytosis, or need for vasopressors
- Sepsis diagnosis based on Sepsis-3 criteria with suspected or confirmed infection and acute SOFA score increase of 2 or more points
- Expected ICU stay of at least 48 hours after surgery
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnancy
- Advanced liver disease (Child-Pugh class B or C) affecting albumin levels
- Advanced kidney disease (CKD stage 4 or 5) or patients on chronic dialysis
- Expected death within 48 hours of ICU admission
- Primary peritonitis or tertiary peritonitis
- Immunocompromised status including chronic immunosuppressive therapy, organ transplant recipients, or HIV with CD4 count below 200/mm³
- Pre-existing systemic inflammatory diseases affecting baseline CRP levels
- Participation in other interventional trials that could affect outcomes
