This research investigates early heart dysfunction in adults who survived childhood cancer. It focuses on detecting heart problems sooner using a new echocardiographic method called speckle tracking compared to standard echocardiography. The study aims to improve early diagnosis of heart issues, which are a leading cause of death unrelated to cancer in this group. Participants receive detailed heart evaluations including conventional and speckle tracking echocardiography, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and other assessments such as physical exams and questionnaires about lifestyle and fatigue. The study compares survivors treated with potentially heart-affecting therapies like anthracyclines or chest radiation (high risk) to those treated with other chemotherapy (standard risk). During the study visit, survivors undergo a thorough cardiac assessment with tests like electrocardiograms, exercise tests, and quality of life surveys. Researchers measure the presence of heart dysfunction and impaired exercise capacity, and evaluate treatment-related risk factors. Follow-up evaluations may be performed if clinically needed. The study is conducted at the University Hospital Bern, Switzerland, and participation requires written consent with no upper age limit specified.
