Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Men or women aged 18 to 85 years
- FEV1/FVC less than 70% or proven chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (BPCO)
- Patients who have given their free and informed consent in writing
- For decompensated COPD patients at hospital admission with acute respiratory failure: respiratory rate greater than 25 cycles per minute, PaCO2 greater than 45 mmHg, and blood pH less than 7.35
- For inclusion after acute respiratory failure: blood pH greater than 7.33 for two days in a row or 3 to 7 days after hospital admission
- Body temperature less than 38.5°C at inclusion
You will not qualify if you...
- Obvious evolving infection or C-reactive protein (CRP) greater than 100 mg/L
- Cardiac decompensation as the main cause of decompensation or chronic heart failure with left ventricular ejection fraction less than 45%
- Evolving neoplasia
- Use of antioxidants such as N-acetyl-cysteine, selenium, vitamin C, or vitamin E
- Pregnant or nursing women
- Patients under tutorship or curatorship
- Patients participating in another drug clinical research study
- Patients not affiliated with the French social security system or equivalent
- Patients deprived of liberty or hospitalized without consent
