Observational Study of Changes in Depression and Esthetic Perception Before and After Bimaxillary Orthognathic Surgery for Malocclusion

This research aims to study changes in depressive symptoms and personal esthetic perception in adults with different types of malocclusion who undergo bimaxillary orthognathic surgery. It focuses on understanding the psychological effects and esthetic outcomes of the surgery by analyzing clinical data and patient questionnaires collected before and after the procedure. The study involves adult patients between 18 and 40 years old who are scheduled for this surgery at Krkkale University. Participants will be grouped based on their malocclusion type Skeletal Class I, Class II, or Class III. All participants will undergo bimaxillary orthognathic surgery, and changes in depressive symptoms, self-esteem, esthetic perception, and quality of life related to the surgery will be assessed. The study uses anonymized clinical records and validated questionnaires to collect data at two key points one week before surgery and six months after surgery. During the study, participants will complete assessments about their esthetic perception, depressive symptoms, self-esteem, and quality of life. Researchers will also collect information on demographics and social media use. The primary outcomes measured include changes in depressive symptoms, quality of life, and self-esteem between the preoperative and six-month postoperative visits. The total participation duration covers these two assessment points, supporting a better understanding of psychological and esthetic impacts of orthognathic surgery.
