Aim of the study: To study and to describe factors which could influence the course of primary HIV infection (PHI) and factors that in turn could be influenced through PHI. In summary, this study will provide comprehensive knowledge on early HIV-infection with regard to epidemiology, impact of early-cART on the course of disease and forms the base for a variety of translational research projects addressing early key pathogenesis events between virus and host, relevant for the course of disease, for transmission, for development of vaccines and new treatment strategies.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Acute HIV-1 infection defined by negative or evolving immunoblot with positive p24 antigen and/or detectable plasma HIV-1 RNA
- Documented HIV seroconversion within 90 days with or without symptoms or clinical signs of primary HIV infection
- Recent HIV-1 infection defined by documented seroconversion between 91 and 180 days
- Evolving immunoblot after clear transmission risk within 180 days
- Documented HIV infection with clear or possible transmission risk within the last 180 days and less than 0.5% ambiguous nucleotides fraction
You will not qualify if you...
- Documented HIV infection with diagnosis established more than 180 days after the presumed infection date
