Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Female breast cancer patients aged 60 years or older with a new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer
- Patients with a treatment plan including chemotherapy (experimental group) or without chemotherapy (control group)
- Healthy control subjects aged 60 years or older
- Life expectancy of at least 1 year
- Karnofsky Performance Score of 80 or higher
- Ability to understand and willingness to sign informed consent
- Participants with well-controlled vascular risk factors may be included in the healthy control group
- Negative pregnancy test required for women of childbearing potential before imaging
You will not qualify if you...
- Evidence of metastatic central nervous system disease
- Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score below 24
- Active or history of major psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, major affective disorder in mid-life, or treatment with electroconvulsive therapy (mild, well-treated depression allowed)
- Substance abuse within the past 2 years
- Huntington's disease, hydrocephalus, or seizure disorder
- Contraindications to MRI, including implanted metal devices, metal in the eyes without proof of removal, or claustrophobia
- Eye injuries with metal without X-ray documentation confirming removal
