Researchers are conducting the China Diabetes Type 1 Study (CD1S), a nationwide registry focusing on patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and pediatric or adolescent patients with diabetes who had an age of onset of 20 years or younger. The study aims to explore demographic features, metabolic control, complications, and risk factors in patients with T1D as well as clinical characteristics and burdens of complications in younger diabetes patients. The study includes a retrospective component enrolling hospitalized patients from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2021, and a prospective part starting in 2022. All patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes of any age and all patients with diabetes onset at age 20 or younger are included. The intervention involves a standard T1D management model developed by the China Alliance for Type 1 Diabetes implemented at each participating center. Participants will be followed for up to 10 years with yearly assessments including serum hemoglobin A1c levels, urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio, cardiovascular disease monitoring, electromyography, and psychological questionnaires (PHQ-9, GAD-7, WHO-5, PAID). Secondary measures include C-peptide levels, autoantibody titers, fasting blood glucose, blood pressure, lipid profiles, and metabolomics. This study helps improve understanding of T1D progression and management over time.
