Study of Severe Infections in Children Aged 1 Month to 16 Years in Pediatric Intensive Care Units Establishing a Standardized Database on Pathogens and Drug Resistance in China

Researchers are studying severe infections in Pediatric Intensive Care Units PICUs across major cities in China. The goal is to create a high-quality, standardized clinical database of PICU inpatients to understand the incidence, death rates, pathogen types, and treatments used for community-acquired and hospital-acquired infections in these patients. This observational study includes all patients admitted to PICUs from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2025, with follow-up until death or withdrawal from the PICU. The study collects a wide range of clinical information through a standardized database, including patient general information, infection details, treatments administered in the PICU, catheter use, and short-term prognosis. Data is gathered from all eligible PICU patients during the study period to monitor infection patterns and drug resistance trends. Participants are observed throughout their PICU stay, with clinical data recorded on infection characteristics and treatment outcomes. Researchers will analyze the types of pathogens causing infections and their resistance to drugs as the primary outcome. The study runs until the end of 2025, providing comprehensive data to improve understanding and management of severe infections in pediatric critical care.
