AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying the use and effectiveness of COVID-19 treatments among Veterans with mild to moderate disease during different periods when SARS-CoV-2 variants circulated. This research also includes other respiratory viruses like RSV and influenza. The study aims to describe treatment use, compare characteristics of treated and untreated Veterans, and later evaluate how well these therapies and vaccines work in preventing negative outcomes. The study has two phases. In the first phase, researchers will review past records to describe how various COVID-19 therapies, including monoclonal antibodies and antiviral drugs like nirmatrelvir and molnupiravir, were used across different regions and times. They will also study similar data for other infections. The second phase will use advanced observational methods to compare the effectiveness of these therapies and vaccines in preventing short- and long-term health problems related to COVID-19 and other respiratory infections. Participants are Veterans aged 18 and older with confirmed COVID-19 or other respiratory infections documented since the pandemic began. Researchers will collect data from electronic health records to analyze treatment patterns, patient characteristics, and outcomes. They will track hospitalizations, mortality, and other health conditions over time. The study includes ongoing evaluations as new variants and treatments emerge and will last through September 2027, providing important information for improving care in Veterans and other healthcare systems.
