What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the clinical outcomes of ultrasound-guided thermal ablation compared to thyroid surgery for treating low-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma. The study also aims to develop and validate an artificial intelligence model to predict the results of thermal ablation in this condition. This observational study focuses on patients with small tumors and no evidence of cancer spread. Participants choose between two treatment groups thyroid surgery, which involves a thyroid lobectomy, or ultrasound-guided thermal ablation using radiofrequency, microwave, or laser techniques. The study follows patients over time to assess disease progression and treatment effects. During the study, participants will be monitored for at least 12 months. Researchers will track the rate of disease progression over more than 5 years as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes include rates of complications within 1 week and tumor disappearance within 2 years. Evaluations will involve imaging and clinical assessments to measure these outcomes.
