Pilot Study of a Long-Term Cohort of Alzheimers Patients, Their Caregivers, and First-Degree Relatives

Researchers are conducting a pilot phase of a longitudinal observational cohort study involving family clusters that include a patient with Alzheimers disease, an informal caregiver, and at least one first-degree relative. The study aims to explore risk and prognostic factors such as blood-based biomarkers in first-degree relatives and patients, as well as to understand caregiver health, challenges, and needs. This initial study will assess the feasibility of a larger-scale research effort. The study will follow 150 family clusters over two years, with visits at expert memory centers and online questionnaires. Patients with mild to moderate Alzheimers disease, their caregivers, and first-degree relatives will participate. The study will collect data at baseline, 12 months, and 24 months, including medical examinations and regular health questionnaires completed in person or online. Participants will undergo medical evaluations and provide information through questionnaires about their health and caregiving experiences. Researchers will monitor recruitment and retention rates over 18 to 24 months and assess cognitive function over 60 months. The study will also track caregiver health and needs to gain a better understanding of the diseases impact on families.
