What this Trial Is About

Researchers are investigating frequent acute exacerbations in asthma, which are sudden worsening episodes that significantly impact health and healthcare resources. This study aims to identify characteristics and risk factors of patients with frequent exacerbations compared to those with fewer episodes, regardless of asthma severity. It also seeks to develop a predictive model and understand the prognosis and treatment responses of this subgroup, which may represent a distinct asthma type. This observational study involves two groups: asthma patients with frequent exacerbations and those without. There is no intervention or treatment applied as part of this research. Instead, it focuses on collecting detailed information about clinical features, inflammation markers, lung function, comorbidities, environmental exposures, and imaging findings over time to better understand these patterns. Participants will attend outpatient visits where researchers will assess their asthma symptoms, perform lung function tests and lung CT scans, and collect blood and sputum samples to measure inflammation markers. These assessments are done at baseline and followed up for one year to track acute exacerbations and other health changes. The main outcome measured is the frequency of acute asthma exacerbations, with additional evaluations of immune markers and lung health to support the study goals.
