Study of Twin Pregnancy and Child Development Tracking from Pregnancy to Age 3

Twin pregnancy carries increased risks for both mother and babies, including conditions such as high blood pressure during pregnancy, early labor, growth problems in the womb, and others. Researchers aim to better understand these risks by studying the molecular changes and identifying markers that could lead to new treatments. This study also uses twin pregnancies, especially those sharing a placenta, to explore differences in gene regulation before and after birth in twins with identical genetics. The study follows a group of women with twin pregnancies and their children from the time twins are diagnosed until the children reach three years old. Researchers collect various biological samples such as maternal blood, placental tissue, cord blood, urine, and stool at specific times. There is no treatment given, as this is an observational study focused on collecting data and samples. Participants will provide information about the pregnancy, as well as mental, physical, and social details about the children. The research team will measure outcomes such as the occurrence of maternal and fetal complications up to 42 days after birth. They will also analyze molecular profiles in the placenta immediately after delivery and assess child neurodevelopment at age three. The study is expected to last six years, including a 2.5-year recruitment period to gather participants.
