Increased numbers of white blood cells called eosinophils can cause disease. To investigate this disease, researchers need blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid, skin and/or bone marrow samples to compare to samples from patients with this problem. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Ability to sign informed consent
- Healthy male or female
- Age 18 to 85 years for blood, urine, stool, infrared thermography, photography, gastrointestinal secretion, pulmonary function testing, and/or sputum donation
- For bone marrow, cerebrospinal fluid, and/or skin donation: healthy male or female aged 18 to 65 years
- Willingness to provide a concurrent blood sample when donating bone marrow, cerebrospinal fluid, or skin
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnancy
- Weight less than 110 pounds
- History of heart, lung, kidney disease, chronic anemia, or bleeding disorders
- Known bleeding disorder, low platelets (less than 100,000), or taking blood clotting interfering medications such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, or warfarin
- Anemia with hemoglobin less than 12.3 mg/dL
- Evidence of immune deficiency such as HIV infection or cancer
- Taking medications affecting immune response within the past month, including steroids
- Allergy to xylocaine
- Use of investigational drug in the last 6 months
- Any medical condition posing high risk for participation
- Recent warfarin or heparin treatment without appropriate lab normalization
- Previous central nervous system pathology (tumors, inflammatory conditions, infection, seizure disorder, spina bifida) for cerebrospinal fluid donation
- History of spinal surgery with hardware or lumbar spine injections for cerebrospinal fluid donation
- Headache on the day of cerebrospinal fluid donation
- History of keloid or abnormal scar formation for skin biopsy
