Screening for Gastrointestinal Tumors in Adults Aged 40 to 74 from Zhejiang Province

Researchers are investigating combined screening methods for gastrointestinal tumors among adults aged 40 to 74 years living in Zhejiang Province. This observational study aims to detect gastrointestinal cancers early and assess their incidence and mortality over five years. Participants will complete a detailed questionnaire covering medical history, lifestyle, and family history, alongside tests for Helicobacter pylori infection and fecal blood. All participants undergo risk assessments based on collected data, and those identified at high risk are recommended for clinical screening. Samples including tongue images, stool, urine, blood, saliva, gastric juice, and tissue from gastric mucosa or intestinal polyps are collected from those receiving clinical screening. Follow-up includes at least one passive annual check and active follow-ups for positive screening results, with encouragement to complete endoscopic examinations and continued monitoring for those diagnosed with precancerous lesions or tumors. During the study, participant data is entered into the Zhejiang Province Cancer Screening Information Platform. Follow-up information, including diagnostic and treatment details, is recorded and linked to cancer and population registries. The main outcomes measured are gastrointestinal cancer detection, incidence, mortality, and early diagnosis over five years, ensuring comprehensive monitoring of participant health throughout the study period.
