What this Trial Is About

This research aims to compare the healing outcomes of two different bovine bone graft materials used in socket preservation procedures after tooth extraction. The study focuses on maintaining the volume of bone and gum tissues, which often decrease following tooth removal. Researchers will evaluate both clinical and microscopic differences between an allograft and a xenograft in alveolar ridge preservation. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one receiving the allograft material and the other the xenograft. All procedures are performed under local anesthesia and involve careful tooth extraction, graft placement, and coverage with a collagen membrane. After surgery, patients will receive antibiotics, pain relief, and oral rinses, followed by suture removal two weeks later. Follow-up scans will be done at 2-3 months, and bone biopsies will be taken to assess healing before dental implants are placed. Participants will undergo initial dental exams and hygiene treatment before surgery. Researchers will use 3D imaging to measure changes in bone width and thickness over time. Biopsies will be analyzed to study bone healing at the microscopic level. The primary outcome is the change in ridge width after 2-3 months, and secondary outcomes include detailed bone tissue analysis. The total study participation spans from initial evaluation through implant placement after healing assessment.

Your Study Journey

Screening

Duration - 2 to 4 weeks

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial.

1 visit (in-person)

Treatment

Duration - Up to 2 weeks

Participants undergo tooth extraction followed by socket preservation surgery using one of two bone graft materials. Standard postoperative care is provided including antibiotics, pain medication, and oral rinses. Sutures are removed after 14 days.

1 surgical visit and 1 suture removal visit

Follow-up

Duration - 2 to 3 months

Participants return at 2 to 3 months post-surgery for CBCT scans to assess bone healing, followed by a surgical re-entry to obtain biopsies and place dental implants.

2 visits (CBCT scan and surgical re-entry)
