What this Trial Is About

Post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a painful complication that can occur after herpes zoster, caused by reactivation of the Varicella-Zoster virus. PHN leads to chronic nerve pain that may interfere with sleep and daily activities, especially affecting older adults and those with weakened immune systems. This research aims to compare two drugs, Pregabalin and Lacosamide, to see how they work in treating PHN, as there are few studies directly comparing these treatments for this condition. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: Group A will take Pregabalin capsules (150 mg once daily) for 4 weeks, and Group B will take Lacosamide tablets (100 mg twice daily) for the same duration. Both medications are given orally, and the study will monitor the effects of these treatments over the 4-week period. During the study, participants’ pain levels will be measured using the Visual Analog Scale at 4 weeks to assess treatment effectiveness. Researchers will monitor participants throughout the trial, which starts in April 2025 and ends in September 2025. The trial involves adults aged 18 to 50 diagnosed with PHN following herpes zoster. Safety and treatment outcomes will be observed during this time.
