Using a Smartphone App to Track Pain and Function in Adults with Musculoskeletal Pain Comparing Real-Time Reports to Monthly Visit Assessments

This research focuses on patients experiencing musculoskeletal pain and explores how using a mobile app for Ecological Momentary Assessment EMA can capture their symptoms. The study aims to compare pain and function reports recorded by patients in real time with those they provide retrospectively during monthly visits. This approach helps understand patients symptom experiences more accurately. Participants will use a smartphone app to record their pain and functional status twice daily for two months. Follow-up visits occur after one month and at the end of the two-month period, where patients will be asked to recall and evaluate their pain and function over the previous month. The study relies on patients owning a smartphone with Android or iOS systems and being able to use the app. During the study, researchers will collect real-time symptom data through the app and retrospective reports during visits. The primary outcome measured is the difference in pain level reported after one month. Patients will be asked to provide informed consent, and their ability to use the smartphone app is monitored. The total participation lasts for two months, with assessments conducted at baseline, one month, and two months.
