Postoperative Pain Relief Comparison of Rectus Sheath Block and Caudal Epidural Block in Children Undergoing Percutaneous Internal Ring Suturing

Inguinal hernia is a common surgical condition in children, and this trial evaluates two types of nerve blocks for managing pain after a minimally invasive surgery called percutaneous internal ring suturing PIRS. Researchers aim to compare the pain relief effects of rectus sheath block and caudal epidural block in pediatric patients undergoing this procedure. The study focuses on reducing the need for opioids after surgery by providing effective pain control with these nerve blocks. Participants will receive one of two nerve block procedures during PIRS surgery. One group will get a rectus sheath block, where a local anesthetic called bupivacaine is injected under ultrasound guidance on both sides of the abdomen. The other group will receive a caudal epidural block, involving the insertion of a needle near the sacral area to deliver bupivacaine. Both groups also receive paracetamol during surgery to help manage pain. Children in the study, aged 1 to 8 years, will be monitored on the day of surgery for pain levels using pain scores. Researchers will also watch for side effects like nausea and vomiting and track how soon children can get up and move after surgery. The study is randomized and double-blinded to fairly compare the two nerve block methods. The entire participant involvement covers the operation day and immediate postoperative period, focusing on safety and effectiveness of pain control.
