Comparing Platelet-Rich Fibrin and Corticosteroid Treatments to Improve Recovery After Impacted Wisdom Tooth Surgery

What this Trial Is About

This research evaluates the effects of different postoperative treatments in adults undergoing impacted mandibular third molar wisdom tooth surgery. It compares the standard postoperative care alone, platelet-rich fibrin PRF placement, and PRF combined with corticosteroid treatment to understand their impact on recovery. The study is randomized and includes 60 participants divided into three groups, aiming to reduce common complications such as pain, swelling, and limited mouth opening after surgery. Participants receive one of three treatments following surgery standard care with antibiotics, pain medication, and mouthwash standard care plus PRF applied to the extraction socket or standard care with PRF plus an intramuscular corticosteroid injection. PRF is prepared from the participants own blood and placed into the surgical site immediately after tooth removal. The corticosteroid is given once by injection right after surgery. During the study, participants will be monitored for postoperative pain, facial swelling, and trismus on days 1, 2, 3, and 7 after surgery. Follow-up visits will assess these recovery measures, and participants must be able to attend all scheduled visits. The study tracks the effectiveness of the treatments in improving healing and reducing complications within the first week after surgery. This trial is expected to finish by August 2026.
