Children infected with COVID-19 often show no symptoms or only mild symptoms. Because children can spread COVID-19 to older adults, vulnerable individuals, and healthcare workers, understanding how common COVID-19 is among pediatric surgical patients is important. The study involves pediatric surgical patients aged 2 to 17 years who agree to participate along with their legal guardians. Researchers will collect nasal swab samples from anesthetized children and perform rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 using approved testing equipment. This method is simple, fast, and affordable. The study will record test results along with any complications from the nasal swab. Participants will provide information about their demographics, surgical and medical history, medications, COVID-19 symptoms like cough, fever, and fatigue, and any recent exposure to COVID-19 within 14 days. Researchers will track positive antigen test results within one day and monitor for any nasal swab complications. This observational study helps gather important data on COVID-19 prevalence in children undergoing surgery.

You may qualify if you...
- Surgical patients aged 2 to 17 years
- Informed consent provided for surgery and study participation
- No COVID-19 diagnosis in the past 6 months
- No history of nasal bleeding
- No history of blood clotting disorders (coagulopathy)
You will not qualify if you...
- Refusal to undergo COVID-19 testing
- Difficulty obtaining consent from patient or guardian
- COVID-19 diagnosis within the last 6 months
- History of nasal bleeding
- History of blood clotting disorders (coagulopathy)
