What this Trial Is About

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disability worldwide. This research aims to create a culturally and methodologically adapted Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy protocol specifically for Pakistan. The study will then test the effectiveness of this adapted therapy in treating MDD by comparing both in-person and online delivery methods. The study will use a randomized controlled trial design with 90 patients. Participants will receive the adapted EMDR therapy through either face-to-face sessions or online sessions, each consisting of 12 weekly treatments. The goal is to determine the treatment fidelity and compare the clinical outcomes of both delivery modes. Participants will be assessed for symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder before and after treatment. Researchers will use various qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze the data. The primary outcome measured will be the status of Major Depressive Disorder over six months. This study will help understand the effectiveness of culturally adapted EMDR therapy and the feasibility of delivering it online or in person.
