What this Trial Is About
This research aims to find out if culturally targeted messages about the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine can increase African American parents' willingness to vaccinate their daughters. The study compares culturally targeted messaging with general educational messages and no messaging to see which approach is more effective. It also looks into how racism-related thoughts and medical mistrust may affect parents' decisions about HPV vaccination. Participants will view one of several types of messages: culturally targeted messages for African American parents, general education-only messages, or no messages. African American and White parents are included, with some White parents receiving general education-only messages or no messages. The messages were developed with community input and a local health educator to ensure relevance and accuracy. During the study, parents will report their intentions to vaccinate their daughters immediately after viewing the messages and again six months later to see if they started the HPV vaccine series. Researchers will measure attitudes, beliefs, intentions, and actions related to HPV vaccination, as well as any discussions about vaccination. The study involves follow-up at six months to assess vaccine initiation and ongoing receptivity.
