This randomised controlled trial will evaluate the effects of a 9-week multi-component group-based cycling programme (Cycle Nation) versus a standard single cycle training session on self-reported cycling, health and wellbeing outcomes. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Can ride a bicycle
- Self-identified infrequent cyclist (cycles less than once per month)
- Aged 18 years or older
- Willing to provide informed consent
- Willing to participate in measurements
- Willing to be randomly assigned to a study group
- Good understanding of English
- No contraindications to moderate intensity physical activity per adapted PAR-Q+
- Able to attend at least 6 out of 9 in-person sessions
- Intend to remain in the UK through November 2026
You will not qualify if you...
- Cannot ride a bicycle (cannot balance or never learned)
- Frequent or regular cyclist (cycles at least once per month and confident on roads)
- Younger than 18 years old
- Unwilling to provide informed consent
- Unwilling to participate in measurements
- Unwilling to be randomly assigned to a study group
- Cannot speak basic English
- Contraindications to moderate intensity physical activity per adapted PAR-Q+
- Unable to attend at least 6 out of 9 in-person sessions
- Do not intend to remain in the UK through November 2026
