Comparison of Daptomycin and Vancomycin Injections for Treating Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Bloodstream Infection

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are conducting an open-label randomized controlled trial comparing two common treatments, daptomycin and vancomycin, for patients with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus MRSA bloodstream infection. This study is a sub-study of the larger Staphylococcus aureus Network Adaptive Platform SNAP trial and aims to evaluate these therapies in this serious infection. Participants will receive either daptomycin by injection at a dose of at least 6 mgkg or vancomycin by injection with dosing adjusted to achieve specific blood levels, as determined by their treating clinicians. The study includes random assignment to one of these treatment groups and will monitor participants during their treatment period. Throughout the study, researchers will assess outcomes including the desirability of overall clinical results 90 days after enrollment, clinical failure rates, serious adverse events, mortality, infectious complications, and specific side effects such as drug-induced muscle inflammation and eosinophilic pneumonia. The total participation includes treatment and follow-up assessments up to 90 days post enrollment.
