Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Signed informed consent
  • Diagnosis of normal tension glaucoma with typical nerve fiber layer defects and/or equivalent visual field defects
  • Intraocular pressure never more than 21 mmHg
  • Open anterior chamber angle
  • Glaucoma unstable with current medication as assessed by a glaucoma specialist
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Secondary glaucoma such as from previous injury or uveitis
  • Exfoliation syndrome
  • Pigment dispersion syndrome
  • Previous transscleral or endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation
  • Previous other glaucoma surgery
  • Previous retinal detachment
  • Previous intraocular surgeries like vitrectomy or other retinal surgeries
  • Wet age-related macular degeneration
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Previous corneal transplant or refractive surgery
  • Fuchs' dystrophy or corneal abnormalities compromising clarity
  • Patient does not wish to participate
  • Patient does not speak Finnish, Swedish, or English
  • Dementia
  • Only eye with vision worse than 20/200 or loss of central visual field
