Lung Cancer Screening by Low-Dose CT for Adults 55 to 75 With COPD or Emphysema and Smoking History

Researchers are conducting the DEPRECAP study, a long-term observational program focused on lung cancer screening in people with COPD or emphysema. This study aims to gather scientific evidence about the benefits and potential effects of lung cancer screening using low-dose CT scans in this high-risk group. It also seeks to address under-diagnosis of COPD and encourage smoking cessation to reduce deaths from late-stage lung cancer. Participants in this study undergo annual low-dose CT scans and lung function tests until they reach 75 years of age or have abstained from smoking for 15 years, whichever comes first. The study collects clinical, radiological, and biological data to create a registry for future research. It includes current and former smokers with significant smoking history and diagnosed COPD or emphysema. Those who join will be monitored through yearly evaluations including imaging and pulmonary tests. Researchers will measure outcomes related to lung cancer detection and smoking cessation over a 15-year period. The study is designed to follow participants closely to better understand long-term effects of screening and smoking habits on lung health and cancer risks.
