Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Mothers in the high-risk group must have had at least one episode of major depressive disorder since their baby's birth
  • Mothers in the low-risk group must have no history of depressive disorders or current psychiatric diagnoses
  • Infants must be singleton children born full-term (over 37 weeks) and with normal birth weight (over 2,500 grams)
  • Infants must have no birth complications or health problems
  • The two groups will be matched on demographic factors such as age, race/ethnicity, and income
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Mothers with current or past alcohol or substance use disorders during pregnancy
  • Mothers with a lifetime history of bipolar disorder
  • Mothers with a lifetime history of psychotic disorders
